Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Rajan Adhikari currently serves as the Executive Director of National Police Academy, Maharajgung, since 13th July, 2026. He began his professional journey in the Nepal Police on 31st March, 1998 as a Police Inspector, and with a career spanning nearly twenty-eight years, he has steadily risen through the ranks, being promoted to Additional Inspector General of Police on 24th April 2025. His professional growth has been further strengthened by his participation in numerous specialized national and international trainings, including the Regional Senior Mission Leader's Course in Kenya, Operational Command and Management Training for Middle Managers, and specialized courses on the prevention and investigation of sexual and gender-related violence.
Over the course of his distinguished career, AIGP Adhikari has held several significant charges, including Chief of the District Police Office in Sunsari and Sindhupalchowk, Commandant of the Koshi Province Police Training Center, and Chief of the Koshi Province Police Office, Biratnagar. He also served as Director of the National Police Academy and as Program Director of the Master's in Police Sciences program, Director of the Special Bureau, Chief of the Crime Investigation Department and Human Resource Development Department, prior to assuming his current charge. His career also includes a formative role as an Investigation Officer with the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority and as Staff Officer to the Chief of Nepal Police. His illustrious career further encompasses notable contributions to United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, having served in capacity-building roles with UNMIK in Kosovo, UNMIT in East Timor, and as Chief of Facility Management with UNMID in Darfur, Sudan.
In recognition of his exemplary service, AIGP Adhikari has received numerous honors, including the United Nations Medal, the Nepal Bidhya Bhusan, the Prabal Janasewa Shree, Police Baton for commanding Metropolitan Police Circle Thimi, and Best Investigator Award from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, alongside several certificates of appreciation and acknowledgement earned throughout his career.
AIGP Adhikari was born on 28th March, 1973 in Rangeli Municipality, Morang district. He currently resides in Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur, with his family. He holds a Master’s degree in law (LL.M.), specializing in Human Rights, Women and Gender Justice, and Children's Rights, along with a bachelor’s degree in law. Known for his integrity and professionalism, he has been a strong advocate for people-oriented policing, an orientation reflected in the concept papers he has authored on the rescue and rehabilitation of street children, suicide prevention, Fight Against Narcotic (FAN) and staff motivation within the police force.
With a scholarly and reform-minded policing persona, AIGP Adhikari is also a published researcher and writer, with academic articles appearing in the Nepal Law Review and international legal journals, alongside several innovative programs he has pioneered within the organization, including the Police-Community Park initiative and the Meteri Saino community outreach program.
